20 New Year’s Resolutions That Will Improve Your Life in 2020. Healthy, productive habits that will change your life. + FREE Resolutions Checklist
I might have given into the hype around the new decade and the fact that we’re entering the 20’s all over again. I understand that you can start anything at anytime, but also a new decade sounds so cool to start something new. Here are 20 new year’s resolutions for 2020.
1. Drink More Water (ditch the soda!): Drinking more water keeps you hydrated, focused, and carries nutrients to the brain. So, drinking enough water every day is essential! Also, soda has too much sugar so it’s best to stay away as much as possible. Water intake depends on your weight and activity level. Check out how much you should be drinking here!
2. Exercise Everyday: Running, hiking, swimming, doesn’t matter. Get up every day and move for at least 40 minutes!
3. Eat More Veggies: Half your plate should be filled with veggies. They provide necessary nutrients and fiber for a healthy body.
4. Create A Productive Morning Routine: It was my goal in 2019 to have a productive morning routine and mine is perfect! Read how to create a successful morning routine here.
5. All Veggie Meal Once A Week: To help the environment and your body, try going vegetarian at least once a week. You’ll definitely feel a difference in body function after one day!
6. Listen to Podcasts: I LOVE listening to podcasts when I’m working, driving, or cleaning. They are informative, motivating, and entertaining. Great source of education!
7. Practice Gratitude: In your journal, write down 5 things you’re grateful for every day. It helps improves mental health, self-esteem, and reduces aggression.
8. Read More Books: This one is definitely my new year’s resolution in 2020. Reading improves vocabulary, education, and helps with writing!
9. More Self-Care: Focus on yourself in 2020. Take baths, watch Netflix, buy yourself that purse you want. Doing things for you isn’t selfish, it’s self-care and it’s very important!
10. Reduce Screen Time: I could spend hours on social media if I let myself but it’s such a waste of time! Cutting your phone time in half helps productivity, improves sleep, and increases focus.
11. Use Less Plastic: Something I did in 2019, was I stopped using single-use plastic as much as possible. It helps the environment and your body’s health. Read how you can go plastic-free here.
12. Get Organized: Having a planner is the only thing keeping me organized! To keep my life in order I use a planner, Google Calendar, and reminders on my phone. Organizing your life keeps you productive and focused on your goals!
13. 10k Steps a Day: Did you know walking 10,000 steps a day can help you lose 1 pound of fat a week? You can burn 3,500 calories a week if you walk 10k a day!
14. Plan & Take A Trip: Plan a trip somewhere new, local, or out of the country! Going somewhere new always motivates me and helps me step out of my “social bubble”.
15. Start A New Project: Do that closet cleanout, paint your room, start a blog! Starting and completely new projects bring me joy and motivation!
16. Live For Yourself: Something I’ll be doing in 2020 is living for myself. Don’t mind what others think or say about you. It’s your life, not theirs. Living for you will bring you happiness, liberation, and self-confidence!
17. Create Something New Every Day: Draw a flower, bake cookies, or write in your journal. Creating something new helps with stress, brings knowledge, and is the best downtime!
18. Change Up Your Style: A good resolution is to try stepping out of your comfort zone. I personally only wear dark-colored clothes but I want to try to bring in some color. I’ll start with beige or tan. (baby steps! lol)
19. Cook More at Home: Besides saving a ton of money, cooking at home is my favorite thing. It brings you closer to your family, you learn new recipes and you try new foods!
20. Slow Down / One Habit At A Time: Having 20 resolutions is a bit absurd and overwhelming so start with one habit a month. I personally have yearly, monthly and weekly goals. This helps me focus on one task at a time and seep in all the benefits.
What helps me achieve goals is to think of them as intentions and separate them by month. You can learn how to achieve your goals here. Basically, I set realistic intentions and take it day by day. It’s okay if you “mess up”, just try again tomorrow. Eventually, new habits will form and a new life will begin.

These are all fantastic ideas, to implement into the day. Many healthy habits. It is so true that it is best to add new things slowly, let them become a habit, than a routine. I really like the idea to create something new everyday. Thanks for sharing these ideas.
Erika Marie says
I’ve read that it can take 60 days to keep a habit, but it’s worth it in the end (:

I need me a good morning routine! I do not have one and never EVER have. I am not a morning person LOL
Erika Marie says
I wasn’t a morning person until I trained myself to be. Sounds weird but you can read more about it here (:
Britt says
I’m not a huge resolutions person, but you have some great ideas here. One that I know I would like to include more in my daily schedule is to listen to more podcasts. I am really starting to enjoy them!
Erika Marie says
I didn’t think I would enjoy them as much as I do. It’s about finding the right genre and podcaster!

That’s a lot of resolutions you’ve hot packed in for this year. I’m quite the reader myself, especially of comics and autobiographies (cos I’m nosey when it comes to people’s personal lives haha). What kind of books do you normally like reading?
Good luck on making those resolutions come true 🙂

Such a good resolution!

The one I’m striving for is #5 above. Eating an all- vegetable meal is a good idea for countless reasons. One of my teenagers is already vegetarian and is ready to make the leap to vegan. I can team up with her!
Erika Marie says
So happy for her! I don’t think I can go “full vegan” at the moment but going vegan 4x a week is my goal!

These are truly great resolutions. I agree with your point about takin git slow though. I already started drinking more water in November and use an app that will record how much I drink and remind me to drink more. Reading more books is also definitely on my list of new year’s goals.
Erika Marie says
I also use an app to help me keep track of my water intake and it helps a lot!
