5 Tips to Boost Energy While Staying at Home

Happy Monday, everyone! Today I wanted to talk about something that has been really bothering me lately. I’M ALWAYS TIRED. I’ve always been a little more tired than the usual person, but ever since we’ve had to stay at home it has been worse. So, this past week I’ve been trying out new things to boost my energy while staying home and these were the 5 tips that helped!

1. Drink Water

Right when I wake up, I immediately go to the kitchen and serve myself a glass filled with iced water. This almost instantly wakes me up because I havenโ€™t drunk water for eight hours! You might be still tired after eight hours of sleep because your body is dehydrated. So, instead of going straight to the coffee (something that dehydrates you) try drinking a tall glass of ice-cold water first! Also, make sure you are drinking water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Getting a water bottle like this one has helped me drink so much more water!

2. Drink A Smoothie / Eat A Healthy Breakfast

I always used to eat just cereal and wait until around noon to eat again, but by then I was starving and would eat A LOT for lunch. Eating too much for lunch made me feel so sluggish afterwards. Iโ€™ve learned that if I have a bigger breakfast I would feel fuller, and therefore, wouldnโ€™t binge eat at lunch time. This helped so much with that afternoon sluggish feeling! My favorite breakfast is oatmeal and fruit! My favorite smoothie for energy is made with this protein powder (best vegan one ever!)ย and a bunch of fruit! See recipe below!

3. Take a Multivitamin

For a long time, I didnโ€™t take vitamins because I thought I was fine without them (Iโ€™m not). Turns out I donโ€™t get nearly enough of the nutrients that I need for my body. I didnโ€™t consume enough iron, vitamin C, D, A, you name it! I honestly think taking a multivitamin has helped me stay focused and moving. I never really took any prior to now, but after doing some research I learned that if Iโ€™m not eating enough nutrients I can at least take a multivitamin that will help me with my health. I personally use these ones because they taste good and are easy to take; I hate tablets. LOL.

4. Have a Protein-Packed Snack

Throughout the day, make sure youโ€™re eating some healthy snacks to avoid crashing or unnecessary hunger. Your body needs to stay energized and remember calories=energy. I like to snack on trail mix, fruit or granola bars. I love a simple trail mix like this one. Also, another favorite snack is The Complete Cookie from Lenny & Larryโ€™s. Itโ€™s vegan and has 16 grams of protein! Meaning youโ€™ll stay full until your next meal!

5. Listen to Music

When youโ€™re sitting at your new at-home desk, try putting on some of your favorite tunes for a burst of energy. I know when I hear my favorite songs I canโ€™t help but to sing and dance. I wouldnโ€™t suggest doing that at work but at home, you can! I feel as though this wakes up my brain after hours of just staring at a computer.

Something I also like to do is workout in the middle of the day. I know not everyone can do that, but even just a quick stretch or a walk around the block can give you a burst of energy! Don’t forget, our time at home is temporary and we are doing this for our health. The new normal doesn’t have to be a bad thing. We will get through this.
