My morning routine has been the one thing I look forward to every day. It’s probably because I can’t wait until I can have my iced coffee again (lol). I personally love a slow-paced morning, so I make sure to be mindful of my morning habits.
A few years ago, I was the type of person who was always in a hurry. I woke up with just enough time to brush my teeth, get dressed then out the door. I realized being in a hurry and rushing wasn’t the lifestyle I wanted to live.
I started waking up earlier and focused on the things that mattered to me. I was mindful of making my morning coffee, sitting down and enjoying my breakfast, and most importantly being present with myself.
I can’t express how much slow living has changed my routine, anxiety, and perspective on what truly matters to me. I highly suggest the next time you do your morning routine to do it a bit slower, relax, and be present with yourself.
6 Morning Habits I Do To Start My Day
1. Drink Water & Have Breakfast
I feel like a broken record, but drinking water first thing when you wake is life-changing! If you wake up tired in the morning, drink a glass of water and I promise you’ll feel more awake and energized. Our bodies are dehydrated in the morning, so drinking water is very important for energy and alertness.
I also make sure to eat breakfast every morning. This is something I would always skip and feel awful by the middle of the day. I’m not too hungry in the morning so oatmeal or a bowl of fruit with granola and cafecito is perfect for me. Eating breakfast also helps with not binging at lunch.

2. Make My Bed
I always make sure to start my day off with a task. Whether it’s putting away the dishes, cleaning for 10 minutes, or making my bed. Starting your day with a simple task alerts the brain that it’s time to start working. It also feels like you accomplished something within minutes of waking up + who doesn’t like coming home to a clean bed!
3. Write Down A Checklist
I would be lost without my planner (I forget everything! lol). Every morning I start my day by writing down everything I need to get done. I start off by writing down my list and then prioritizing each task. I always wake up semi-stressed because I have so much on my mind. Writing it all down helps me visualize everything instead of having it stuck in my mind.
I also do a brain dump once a week! You can read more about that here.
4. Facial Rolling
This is one of my newest morning habits that I can’t live without. If you don’t own a facial roller, then you need to get one immediately! I have a rose quartz facial roller and I put it in the fridge overnight and roll my face every morning. Putting it in the fridge makes it really cold so it can depuff my face and feel very refreshing. It helps me wake up too because it’s so cold!
The facial roller is known to promote lymphatic drainage and help to eliminate toxins.
I also like using the smaller side of the roller and massaging under my eyes to depuff and brighten my dark circles. It also feels amazing if you wake up with sinus pressure!
5. Read A Chapter From A Book
I love just reading something in the morning to get my brain started and wake it up. I usually just read a chapter from a book that I’m reading at the moment. It’s a way to slowly wake up in the morning. I like to start my day with critical thinking because it gets all my creative thoughts flowing for the day.
If I’m not reading a book at the time, then I like to read news articles, blog posts from other bloggers, or read the newsette.
Here are some of the books I’ve read/going to read.

6. Check My Phone
The last thing I do in the morning is check my phone. I check emails, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, pretty much every app on my phone. I do this after everything because I don’t like waking up and checking my phone and getting upset over something I saw I Twitter, which happens often.
The reason I like to start my day off by checking my phone is that I’ll be less tempted to check it throughout the day. I pretty much just like to check up on the world and then get my day started.
I would love to hear some of your morning habits or morning rituals in the comments.
Have you tried incorporating slow living into your everyday routine?

These are really good tips. I’m awful at waking up in the morning, even working from home I roll out of bed at the last minute. I don’t know if I can ever change, but your post is making me rethink. I don’t drink water at all until after breakfast. I think I need to change and drink in the morning to see how it affects me.
