Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you all had a good weekend. Today I wanted to talk about the healthy habits I’m practicing right now. From my sleeping routine to what I’ve been eating – I’m working on me.
7 Healthy Habits To Practice
1. A Slow Morning Routine
Every morning I take about 30-45 minutes to make breakfast, eat breakfast, make my coffee, and get ready for the day. I find that when I wake up late and rush my morning routine, I’m more anxious and less focused. If you’re back in the office, try to at least enjoy 10 minutes to yourself. Read a chapter from your current book, make a good cup of coffee, or do a 10-minute stretch. Your morning routine sets the tone for the rest of the day, so it’s important not to rush it. It’s a healthy habit everyone should try.
2. Eating Immune-Boosting Foods
Not going to lie, I’ve been eating whatever my little heart desires, but I’m starting to incorporate more veggies and fruit in my meals. I also started to eat less refined carbs and I feel so much better and have way more energy throughout the day! I’ve substituted bread and tortillas with lettuce wraps. Also, adding more veggies like spinach, broccoli, and sweet potatoes will boost your immune system to stay healthy during this time.

3. Making A To-Do List
I swear I have post-its every now, but it’s how I keep up with my to-do lists. Every morning I write down 5 things I need to do that day and post it on my desk where I can reference it throughout the day. I like keeping my to-do list visible so it keeps me accountable to get things done that day. It also makes me feel super productive when I cross everything off the list! If you have room on your desk, I highly recommend a weekly planner pad like this one!
4. Going Outside
Sometimes I have to remind myself that getting some fresh air is the perfect healthy habit. I live in Los Angeles, so it’s not that fresh but I need to go outside for some vitamin D. I have to admit I don’t do this one every day but when I do go outside it’s usually for the whole day, so that makes up for it right?
5. Exercise Thirty Minutes A Day
I have been consistently working out since January and I’m so proud of that! I’ve noticed my body getting stronger and the workouts getting easier (except cardio, I still strongly dislike cardio). I don’t work out on the weekend, but I am walking a lot and Sunday is my rest day. Exercise just means moving your body and getting off the couch. You can try yoga, pilates, or even walking around the block.
6. Drinking Water
I used to suck at drinking enough water, so I had to download an app that reminds me lol. I really want to drink the recommended amount of water, so I drink around 60 oz of water a day for my body size. You can find out how much you need with this calculator. Drinking water helps with energy, focus, and hydration (duh, but I know half of us to forget to drink water!). This is my favorite water bottle that helps me stay on track!
7. Going to Bed on Time
Going to bed on time is now super important to me. My sleep schedule needs to be the same every day or else my whole routine is thrown off. I always try to sleep for 8 hours every night. I find that when I sleep 8 hours I am perfectly recharged for the next day.
If you’re finding it hard to fall asleep read my tips here!
Healthy habits are formed over time so try a simple habit first and then add as you go. It eventually leads to a healthier lifestyle. Remember, today is day 1!

Hi Erika! Really loved this post, I’m glad I found your blog, right up my alley! I’ve been trying to get up earlier so I’m not rushing about in the mornings so much and I have been doing pretty well with getting outside and exercising but I certainly need to get more sleep!

Great post! I try to do most of these things daily as well! The one I struggle with the most is getting enough vegetables. I eat them with dinner, but that might be the only meal some days!

I need to work on making a to-do list. I have a schedule of what I am sharing in my Facebook groups, but I need to get into the habit of making a list of tasks that I need to do for my blog beside that. I also need to start going to bed earlier. I have been struggling with this since the quarantine and getting less sleep than I need because I am still waking up early. Finally, I live in L.A., too. I don’t think I knew that. ??? Since the quarantine the air quality has been much better here. I go outside every day on my patio, and a go bike riding at the beach once a week. I agree, going outside is a healthy habit to get into. ??
Erika Marie says
I think we all have been struggling with sleep since quarantine! L.A’s air is probably a little better I must admit and that’s so cool that you visit the beach often. I haven’t been this whole year and I really miss it! Stay safe (:

These are great habits to have! 🙂 I have also found that a slow morning routine is better for me, and bed time! I used to do the late night/later morning thing, but I find that I like going to be a little earlier and getting up to start the day earlier. Thanks for sharing!

I was the same way! I guess as we get older we become morning people lol

This so deeply resonated with me!. After reading every habit I was like “oh me too!”. I too have a tiny desk (thanks to my space encroaching Monitor setup) and write my to-do on post-its!?
Having said that, I am still trying to work hard to find a better consistent sleep routine though. I tend to get into the flow of work and keep working until midnight and that takes a toll on the next. I then find the need to rush through my morning routine and chaos ensues.
Really liked the post!

It feels like I’m always working on my sleeping routine too! I just try to remind myself that I will feel better the next day if I go to sleep on time. Thanks for reading!

These are some great habits to have in your life. It’s great to see that you are taking care of your health and that it’s taking care of you. Your morning routine is setting you up for success through focus. The post it notes and to-do list helps you be productive throughout your day. I use my vision board. It’s the first thing I look at in the morning to remember what my main goals are.
