The 6 Best Netflix Movies

Hi, everyone! Today I am sharing the best movies on Netflix ? This is a list all about the best Netflix Original Movies. These are honestly the best movies Netflix has released so far. These are a must watch!

I’m one of those people who will search for a movie to watch on Netflix for over an hour and end up not finding anything. When I do end up finding something to watch it either ends up being boring or it’s really good. This is a list of the the really good Netflix Originals movies that they have came out with (so far). I’ll be rating them out of five stars.

NOTE: These are not my favorite movies of all time. These are just my favorite movies that Netflix has made, as of July 2019.

The Best Netflix Movies

The Ritual (2017)
3/5

Okay fun fact, I never watch trailers. They always give away the whole movie! Like thanks for summarizing the whole movie so I don’t have to watch it anymore! Anyways, so I don’t watch trailers meaning I never saw the trailer for this movie. I usually go off the main picture for the movie, the description, and the title. This one sounded like a good horror movie (which used to be my favorite, but now I get nightmares so I had to stop because I don’t enjoy waking up in the middle of night scared). In 2017 though, I loved horror movies so I was down to watch it.

So, it’s basically about how these four guy friends go on a hike in a Swedish forrest and take a wrong turn (to say the least). Strange things start happening, weird noises are heard throughout the woods, and some demonic encounters start to happen. I mean when you see an animal with it’s guts completely ripped out, wouldn’t you run away as fast as possible?? Well these dudes don’t and things get pretty wild from there.

I loved the cinematography, the acting was really good, and the storyline kept me interested throughout the whole film! Overall it was crazy, played with the psychological mind, and was definitely something I’ve never seen before. I gave it 3 stars because I predicted the ending.

Dude (2018)
3/5

Who doesn’t like a coming-of-age movie? This is about four teen girls who are best friends doing teen things. I liked this movie because it was real. This wasn’t your typical teen drama where the guy doesn’t like her back kind of shit. It was about four teen girls who smoke weed, say what’s on their mind and deal with some real life shit. It’s about struggles, the hardship of friendships, sex and drugs.

It was honestly refreshing to see a movie portraying real life situations that young women go through. It was written and directed by women, with the main cast being women, so I’m not surprised it portrayed a woman’s life so well. I also saw Lucy Hale, the main character, in a way I never thought I would see her. (You have to watch to find out what I mean).

The Fundamentals of Caring (2016)
3.5/5

I actually didn’t know this was a Netflix Original until I checked. This is about an 18- year-old boy named Trevor with muscular dystrophy and his new caregiver (Paul Rudd) creating a friendship, discovering hope and meeting new people by going on a road trip together. The boy only does what is apart of his routine and the caregiver is going through a difficult time.

When they go on the road trip, they find out life is worth living when you’re surrounded by good people. It was a funny, feel-good, and inspiring movie. This was one of my favorites because the main character, Trevor, kept making inappropriate jokes that make the movie more of a Comedy than a Drama. Also, Selena Gomez is in it so, of course, I had to watch it ??‍♀️

Dumplin’ (2018)
3.5/5

Another coming-of-age movie. This one is about a teen girl from Texas signing up for a beauty pageant run by her famous, former beauty queen mom, played by Jennifer Aniston. Willowdean, who is plus-size, just wants to prove to her mom that she is worthy of  being beautiful, you don’t need to be skinny to be beautiful and there is more to life than just looks. I love this movie because it teaches a young audience that you should embrace and love your body despite society’s skinny propaganda.

It’s a film filled with self-love, self-acceptance, friendship, and family relationships. As someone who is 24-years-old, I’ve realized that how we talk to young girls and boys shapes how they think of themselves when they’re older. Adults have the power to shape a young mind, and we should be teaching them self-acceptance and not how they should look, talk or behave. A great movie to show young teens.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil & Vile
3.5/5

This was very highly anticipated for Netflix viewers. A lot of people ended up not liking it but honestly I really liked it! It’s about the notorious serial killer from the 1970’s, Ted Bundy, played by Zac Efron. Efron did such a good job at playing this character, it was kind of creepy. I feel like people hated the movie because it wasn’t about Ted and his killings, it was focused on how his girlfriend, Elizabeth Kendall (Lilly Collins), couldn’t come to the fact that Ted was a serial killer.

The movie focused on Ted’s charming, charismatic personality instead of this other vicious persona because that’s how Elizabeth perceived Ted at the time of his killings. I thought the film did an amazing job at making you almost (almost) feel bad for Ted. He was so convincing (and good looking to women) that you didn’t want to believe he was a gruesome killer! Overall, I loved the costume design, the narrative, and the amazing acting from Collins and Efron.

To The Bone (2017)
4/5

Finally, the best movie Netflix has released (so far), To The Bone. This one was kind of hard to watch, especially if you’ve struggled or is currently struggling with body dysmorphia. Ellen or Eli, played by Lilly Collins, specifically is struggling with an eating disorder, anorexia. Collins even lost weight to play this role, under the supervision of a nutritionist.

Eli has tried getting help in the past but nothing helped her. Her and her family then decide to take her to a group home where others are struggling with the same thing. Ellen sees an eating disorder specialist, played by Keanu Reeves, that tries to show her that there is more to life than counting calories and checking your weight.

The film raises awareness around eating disorders, mental illness and body dysmorphia. Although, it was criticized for containing too many stereotypes around anorexia. It isn’t the “perfect movie” about body dysmorphia but it does spark a conversation about mental illness. It lets others know they are not alone in their journey.

It gives hope to those that are currently struggling. It’s important for the media to show the good, the bad and ugly of mental illness. It’s important to show that not everyone is having a “normal” young adult experience. That’s why this is my favorite movie from Netflix, so far.

That’s all my favorite Netflix Original movies, so far! I know 3 1/2 stars is seen as a low rating but these are some of the best, in my opinion, movies from Netflix. I personally think Netflix excels in shows rather than movies. If you want to know the best shows on Netflix, let me know in the comments! Also, share some of your favorite Netflix Originals!
