Have you ever dreamed about becoming the best version of yourself or had a dream life in mind but can’t seem to get there? Changing your life starts with your daily habits. Once you implement these habits into your life you’ll start to notice you’re getting closer to your best self. All it takes is becoming 1% better every day, so here are 10 daily habits that will change your life.
Do Not Hit Snooze
Mel Robbins talks about how hitting the snooze button kills your productivity for at least four hours. When we sleep, we sleep in cycles and when the alarm goes off in the morning our brain wakes up. When you snooze your alarm your brain goes back to sleep and when you wake up again you feel more tired and groggy. Instead of snoozing, count down from five to one then get out of bed.
Set Goals and Intentions
Every morning set an intention for the day. Think about what you want to do, what needs to get done, or what’s been on your mind. It’s all a process, but you can start by brain-dumping your thoughts and prioritizing them. For example, if your priority is to eat healthier, your intention could be “I will nourish my body with food and nutrients that make me feel good.” Intentions should start with “I” because it’s something you want to see get done. These shouldn’t be seen as goals, it’s just something to be mindful of for the day.
Plan Your Day
Make a list of everything that needs to get done that day, then prioritize them. Make sure to keep the list short and important. Do not add things that you know will not get done. Try to keep it at 6 important tasks that are reasonable and accomplishable. Try this Ultimate Life Planner Notion Template if you struggle with planning your day.
Make Your Bed Every Morning
Starting your day with a small task helps wake up your body and brain. It’s like a little alert to the brain that it’s time to get the day started. Making the bed and opening the blinds before starting your day can be a new daily morning ritual.
Add Fruit and Veggies to Every Meal
Adding fruits and veggies to every meal will help you reach your daily intake serving. Reaching your daily intake can help decrease inflammation, lower cholesterol levels, and blood pressure. Fresh, frozen, canned, and dried are all nutritious.
Journal
At the end of the day, write down some thoughts or reflections on your day. We are always thinking about the future and never about the present. Always take some time to reflect on the now and appreciate your day at the moment.
Limit Social Media
Social media can cause unwanted anxiety so it’s best to limit our daily use. Instead of spending four hours on other people’s lives, spend those hours with yourself or loved ones. The news can also cause anxiety so stick to only one hour.
Daily Movement
It is important to move your body every day. Daily walks, yoga, pilates, or whatever you are feeling that day. Exercise is a form of self-care and your body will be thankful for you treating it with respect every day. Workout because you love your body not because you hate it.
Read a Chapter
Learn something new every day by reading a chapter a day. Fiction or nonfiction, both teach us new things and opens the mind to new thoughts and opinions. Reading is a great way to exercise the brain so reading just a little a day can go a long way.
Go to Bed On Time
Once you start prioritizing your sleep, your life will change forever. Getting 8 hours every night can improve your brain performance, mood, and health. You’ll start to feel better mentally and physically. The best way to go to bed on time is to dim the lights 2 hours before bedtime and no phone 1 hour before bedtime.
These are just 10 general ideas to work with so be sure to do daily habits that are relevant and suitable to your life. Every day is not going to be perfect but even just 1% better will keep you on track to become the best version of yourself.
