Fall Essentials 2019

It’s officially Fall, witches ??

Happy Fall/Autumn, everyone! It’s officially the time of year when bloggers morph into a pumpkin spice latte. Although for me, it’s a pumpkin pie because those are my absolute favorite ? Anyways, I wanted to celebrate this national blogger holiday by talking about my Fall Essentials. We’re talking all things Fall today. From pumpkin everything to the best Halloween movies. I thought it would be fun to share my favorite things about Fall, so let’s get started ?

Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin

We’re talking PSL (pumpkin spice latte), pumpkin pie, pumpkin donuts, pumpkin spice creamer, pumpkin bread, pumpkin spice Cherrios, Milano pumpkin spice cookies, pumpkin spice oatmeal, & (my personal favorite) pumpkin pie Pop-Tarts. They literally taste like pumpkin pie!! Brands really know how to take advantage of the Fall time by turning foods they make into pumpkin flavored anything (and I thank them for that). Pumpkin foods are *clearly* an essential for Fall time.ย

best halloween movies

Halloween movies are my shit. I’ve been watching Halloween movies since I was a kid. It started with Halloweentown as a kid and now I’m watching any new horror movie that comes out. Horror movies are literally my favorite to watch. No idea why though? Maybe because I watched a lot of scary movies as a kid, that scared me to death by the way. Never show a child “It” because they will be afraid of clowns for 10 years (yes, I’m talking about me). It by Stephen King gave me horrible nightmares as a kid. It’s weird that I grew to like horror movies. Probably because my dad would take me to every horror movie that came out, but who knows! I also love kid Halloween movies, they’re cute and spooky too. Here’s my list of must-watch Halloween movies:

BEST HALLOWEEN HORROR MOVIES

The Shining (1980)

It by Stephen King (1990)

Halloween (1978)

BEST HALLOWEEN KID MOVIES

THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (1993)

halloweentown (1998) & halloweentown II (2001)

hocus pocus (1993)

If I had to choose my absolute favorites I would choose The Shining and The Nightmare Before Christmas. The Shining isn’t necessarily scary or gory, it’s more of a psychological thriller and it’s AMAZING. The Nightmare Before Christmas is supposedly a Christmas movie, according to the producers, but with a song called “This is Halloween” I beg to differ. Both classics, both a must-watch.

best shows to watch

If you want to watch a show to get you into the Fall season, I would definitely recommend The Vampires Diaries. Okay, I’m a bit obsessed with this show not gonna lie. It’s about vampires, witches, wolves along with drama and romance. It takes place in small town where things start to go awry. Super binge worthy and addicting (I’m currently watching it for the 10th time).

If you really want to get spooky, American Horror Story will be your favorite. I’ve been watching this series since it first came out and it’s been amazingly horrifying since. Great storylines (every season is a different *American horror story* haha get it?) and great actors who play crazy characters. Also, The House on Haunting Hill was terrifying and brilliant.

If you have little ones, I would suggest Goosebumps. I LOVED this show as kid and I read the books. Creepy stories but kid appropriate! You can find all these shows on Netflix.

books to read

I love reading mystery thrillers during the Fall time. They’re not gory or scary but they are situations that are terrifying if you were ever in them. In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware is about a hen party gone wrong. She’s having trouble remembering what actually happened at the party and if she actually killed someone. Loved the ending, it was a good plot twist!

Another mystery thriller is The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. I know it’s super old by now but it’s still such a good read. It’s about a girl on a train (no duh) who sees something that leads her down a path of drama, lies, and death. You get a perspective from multiple characters and find out how everything unfolded through their eyes.

CANDLES, please.

Bath and Body Works is the queen of Fall scents. From sweet scents like Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin to fresh, crisp scents like Fresh Balsam, BBW has it all. Kirkland’s apparently has it all too because that’s where I got this candle from and it smells AMAZING. Also, it was only $6 (a STEAL compared to a $24 BBW candle). Wherever you buy candles, a Fall scented one is a must. This one is called Autumn Apple and it smells like cinnamon apple or Fall in a candle. If you like more of a musk scent then you’ll love this Amber and Moss one. Both smell SO GOOD.

Those were all my essentials for Fall/Autumn 2019. To recap, my essentials are pumpkin pie Pop Tarts, The Shining, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Vampire Diaries, a mystery thriller book and a Fall scented candle. Ahh, I love this season so much. Can’t wait to make more Fall content for you all.

  1. Loved this post. Fall is just the best season. I love everything pumpkin spice flavored too. I’ve never tried the pop tarts, but I think I must! They sound so delicious. Horror movies are also the best. My favorite is The Conjuring. Though I hate watching them alone. Also, I love the smell of fall candles! I don’t own any though, but maybe I should change that! Great post!

    1. You definitely should try the pop tarts, so good! The Conjuring is a great horror movie, also wouldn’t watch alone either lol. Also, it’s the perfect time to buy some candles! Thanks for reading (:

  2. So cute! I am currently reading The Shining and hoping to finish it just in time to rewatch the movie this Halloween season! ?

    1. I haven’t found a pumpkin candle I like yet, but I love a cinnamon scented one! Horror movies are definitely not for everyone, my mom stays clear of those. But we love watching Halloweentown!

    1. My sister and I LOVE that movie. Although she probably loves it a little more because she plays the soundtrack in her car lol.

  3. Loved this post! Fall is my absolute favorite too. I just wrote blog post about my fall bucket list a few weeks ago too! Just watched Nightmare Before Christmas the other day and watching TVD now since you reminded me!!

    1. I’ll check it out, I love reading bucket list so I can add to my own โ˜บ๏ธ I’m OBSESSED with TVD #stelena?

  4. Hi Erika!
I really love Fall (it is my favorite season) but I somewhat reject all the pumpkin foods, decor, etc. I am not against a pumpkin latte or pumpkin bagels, but I think since it is everywhere and there is so much hype, I feel like it isn’t special anymore haha. Anyways, I really like watching American Horror story in the Fall. I might rewatch True Blood this year as well. I want to re-read the Harry Potter Series, which with wizards going on feels like it could be a Fall/Halloween appropriate read. Fall scented candles are definitely a staple. I love Amber, moss, pine and generally deeper musky scents!

    1. I like the decor for the colors, mostly. I know what you mean by it being hyped, thatโ€™s how I feel about Christmas lol. But this year, I really want to celebrate Halloween because I really like it! Iโ€™ve never read the Harry Potter series but I did see all the movies (i know iโ€™m horrible lol) Ooohh I love those scents! Have a great season, Ashley โ˜บ๏ธ?

      1. Haha yeah, Christmas is definitely the same way! I really like Halloween too so I feel ya. Haha if you ever get a chance or get motivated, I really recommend reading them! They are a fun read, and of course better than the movies.
        Thanks, you too!

  5. Your article is so cool and remind me that I’ve never seen classical horror movies like The Shinning or Halloween haha. I’m more a Burton’s girl during this period haha (I also watch The Nightmare Before Christmas at Halloween and not at christmas!). AHS is really perfect to have chills and so is The girl in the train, I looooved this book (and I red it literally in the train each morning). Loved this post ! x

    1. I definitely would recommend watching The Shining, it’s not that scary I promise! lol I also love Tim Burton’s movies! TNBC is my favorite, though. That’s cool that you actually read the book on a train! It probably made it more realistic and relatable (kind of lmao). Thanks for reading, Diane (:

    1. Such a good book! The Fall is my favorite time, maybe because I get to light all my Fall scented candles and snuggle in bed lol.

      1. Refreshing fall post. Loved it. I love candles and everything pumpkin. My pet name is pumpkin too! I wanted to watch The Shining, but lately I started getting scared by horror movies, uses to be a big fan though.

        1. Thank you! Also, I felt the same way about horror movies last year but remembering that itโ€™s fake and the real world can be scarier helps a lot. The Shining isnโ€™t too scary though!

    1. I watched Scream Queens when it first came out. It was the perfect mix of horror/comedy, it was a good show! I’ve only ever had gingerbread cookies, what else would you recommend I try? (:
