The ultimate “glow up” routine to get you ready for Summer. How to become the best version of you, plus a free checklist.
With Summer just around the corner, it’s time for a glow up. I’m not talking about getting into the best shape of your life, I’m talking about healthy habits you can do daily that will transform you internally and externally into a better version of yourself this season.
What is a Glow Up?
A glow up consists of improving yourself mentally and physically in order to become your best self. It’s the ultimate transformation of the mind, body, and nourishment of oneself. Anyone can have a glow up with a healthy mindset and healthy habits.

How to Glow Up Your Mind
Practice Gratitude. Every day write down 3 things you are grateful for. If you find yourself saying “I’ll be happy when [insert goal/dream] happens” or “I’ll be happy when I achieve [insert goal/dream]”. Start enjoying your life and happiness now or else you’ll always be searching for it. Practicing gratitude helps remind you that what you have now is enough and that who you are now is enough.
Read Wellness Books. In addition to learning through experience, wellness and self-improvement books help us learn things about ourselves too. The best wellness books to read are Atomic Habits, The Four Agreements, and 101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think. Not into reading? The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast, Not Your Typical, and Morning Rae are great wellness podcasts to listen to.
Daily Affirmations. Affirmations can drastically improve your mindset and internal well-being. Affirmations are positive statements about what you want to become, change, or add to your life. Once a week focus on one affirmation. Write it down somewhere you look at every morning — your phone, planner, or notebook. Read more about affirmations including 22 positive affirmations here.
How to Glow Up Your Body
Find a workout routine that works for you. This means finding workouts or exercises that you enjoy and look forward to. It also means finding a schedule that works with your life. For beginners, try walking daily. Then add pilates once a week. Then strength training once a week. You’ll soon have a workout routine you enjoy that makes you look and feel good. Here are 5 at-home workouts you’ll actually enjoy.
Skincare Routine. Cleanse, tone, moisturize, sunscreen, and repeat daily. A good simple skincare routine can change your whole face and confidence. The face is the first thing people see from us, so it makes sense that confidence and good skin go hand-in-hand.
High Maintenance Once A Week, Low Maintenance the Rest. The “everything shower” has become popular on TikTok. It’s a shower routine where you do everything like exfoliate, shave, hair mask, etc. Being “high maintenance” once a week allows you to be low maintenance the rest of the week because you already did everything in one day. Other routines include: getting your nails done, eyelash extensions done/filled, or a sheet mask for your face.
How to Glow Up Your Nourishment
Daily Greens & Fruits. Make sure you are getting enough vegetables and fruits on the daily. You’ll feel more energized, less bloated and you’ll reach your fiber intake goal. This is a gentle reminder that the sugar in fruit does not count as added sugar. Fruits are from nature and they’re good for your body and mind.
Drink More Water. I know you’re probably sick of hearing this one, but drinking more water helps keep your skin youthful, keep you energized, and improve sleep quality. If you find yourself tired after 8 hours of sleeping, try drinking a glass of water right when you wake up. Fatigue could be caused by hydration. This 40-ounce tumbler keeps my water cold all day and helps me drink more water.
Meal Prep/Plan. Meal prepping helps with avoiding eating junk food because you can’t decide what to eat. Try eating overnight oats for breakfast or making a big dinner for leftovers the next day. Keep your meals healthy during the week and treat yourself on the weekend to take-out. Here are my favorite containers for meal prepping.
At the end of the day, a glow up or self-improvement starts with the mindset of wanting to change yourself for the better – not because it’s trendy. The only way it will stick is if you continue to do these healthy habits on a daily basis.
