HelloFresh Review: Is It Worth It?
I tested out HelloFresh and here are my complete thoughts on this meal kit delivery service.

What is HelloFresh?
HelloFresh is America’s #1 meal kit with chef-inspired meals for people who are short on time but still want a homemade meal. HelloFresh offers meals based on your diet preference such as meat and veggies, veggie, family-friendly, fit and wholesome, quick and easy, or pescatarian.
For your plan, you can choose between two and four people and 2-6 meals per week. Every ingredient is farm-fresh, picked at peak ripeness, and delivered from farm to fridge meaning you’ll get fresh ingredients for every single meal. You can choose from multiple recipes to try for the week or you can simply skip that week.
Meal Kits
My HelloFresh meals arrived on the Thursday of the given week in a large branded box. You’ll find the recipe cards and coupons for future boxes at the top when you open the box. The recipe cards list the ingredients, prep time, cook time, calories, equipment needed, and step-by-step instructions with photos.
Each meal kit came in a separate brown bag labeled with the kit name. In each bag, you’ll receive the produce and ingredients for the meal. The meats were at the bottom of the box with two large ice packs that were still cold.
Meals I Received:
Pecan-crusted Chicken with Honey Mustard Sauce & Lemony Apple Salad
This was the first meal I’ve ever tried from HelloFresh and it was delicious. It’s no wonder why it’s their fan-favorite recipe. The pecan-crusted topping was perfectly crunchy and paired well with the chicken. It also came with a lemony apple green salad and was the perfect amount of sweet and sour. Overall, this meal was one of my favorites and I’m keeping the card to make it in the future!
Turkey & Black Bean Chili with Lime Crema & Jalapenos
The turkey and black bean chili made enough to feed the whole community! It was perfect for leftovers, plus chili always tastes better the next day because all the ingredients marinate so well overnight! You were able to control the spiciness of the chili by not adding in the seeds of the jalapeno, so I did omit them and the chili ended up being a mild spice. I topped mine with the crema that was included and slices of jalapenos. It was filling, flavorful, and easy to make!
Steak with Roasted Garlic Rosemary Butter plus Mashed Sweet Potatoes & Spinach Salad
This recipe took the longest, but in the end, it was worth it! It was my first time cooking steak and it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. The sweet potatoes came out creamy, the butter had the perfect amount of garlic and the salad was perfectly fresh on the side. Overall, this meal did take the longest but I loved learning new skills. This recipe called for roasting garlic, cooking meat, and making mashed sweet potatoes; New things I’ve never done before!
Final Thoughts:
Cooking from scratch is not for the weak, but it is worth the freshness, taste, and flavor. Trying new recipes is one of my goals this year and HelloFresh makes it easy and attainable to do so. The most tedious part was cutting open all the bags of ingredients but I suggest opening everything before you start cooking! I loved that no ingredients went to waste because they give you the exact amount.
Overall, the recipe instructions were easy to follow, the ingredients were fresh, and everything tasted amazing. I recommend giving HelloFresh a try if you want delicious recipe options weekly that are quick and easy to prep and clean up with zero food waste.

Several days ago, I logged in and tried various promo codes to find the best deal. But I didnt commit so I was surprise today when I got a HelloFresh box. I tried to log into the account, but was asked to input a zip code to see if HelloFresh delivers in my area. Had I not just logged in a few days ago? So how was my account now closed? I quickly checked my bank account and saw that I was charged for the box. I am not sure how, because I never entered a credit card when I was trying out the promo codes. I was charged on the same credit card I had used years ago to pay for the service.
I called customer service to find out what was going on. How could I be charged if I had not entered a credit card and did not have an active account? The rep kept telling me that I had reactivated the account, had chosen my meals and an add-on. I was very frustrated but said that I was going to sign up anyways, so if she could please retroactively apply the promo code I wanted and get me access to the account. She kept saying she could not. I asked for her supervisor or someone who could help me, but I was given the same answer that no-one with HelloFresh could help me. I just gave up and asked to cancel the account and said that HelloFresh had lost me permanently as a customer.
I asked the rep to put me through to the ‘review your experience’ survey. She said OK but then promptly hung up on me. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, I called back and briefly gave a summary to the new rep and asked for the “review your experience” phone tree as I had been hung up on before. She said OK and then hung up on me. Wow. I am simply amazed at how much the company’s customer service has degraded since my experience with them years ago. I am also deeply concerned about the security of my personal info since no-one knew anything.
This is not the same HelloFresh from years ago. Beware if you have any issues becasue you will be given the run around.

Although I donโt work for HelloFresh, Iโd suggest reaching out to their team again via email or social media. Sometimes issues can be resolved faster through those channels.
