New year, new routine. If your old morning routine was doing you no favors, try this “that girl” morning routine instead. “That girl” is productive, mindful, has healthy habits, and starts her morning off right.

When it comes to becoming “that girl”, a morning routine is very important. It helps set you up for a successful and productive day. It makes you feel motivated and ready to tackle work or tasks. Becoming “that girl” is personal to everyone, so make sure to create a routine that reflects your current life.

Creating a routine takes time, self-discipline, and willingness. You have to want to make a change and by creating the change you have to start small. Micro habits will change your life and allow you to create a successful morning routine that is productive, effective, and personal to you. Here are 10 ideas for your “that girl” morning routine to get you started.

“That Girl” Morning Routine

1. Wake Up At The Same Time Every Day

Waking up at the same time every day helps reinforce your circadian rhythm (your body’s inner clock) so it can function properly. When it’s functioning correctly you start to wake up easier, fall asleep faster, improve focus, and wake up in a better mood. Try to set the alarm every day that works with your schedule. It does not need to be 5 am or 6 am in order for you to be productive!

2. Avoid Social Media Right When You Wake Up

Social media can cause stress, comparison, and distraction. Instead of focusing on other people’s lives, focus on your own. This will not only improve your mood every morning but will also make you more productive because you have more time to clean up and get ready now. Instead of looking at social media, try making the bed, tidying up a room, or journal.

3. Drink A Glass Of Water

If you wake up tired after a full night’s sleep, try drinking a glass of water right when you wake up. This helps rehydrate the body and increase energy to help you through your “that girl” morning routine. I love leaving my water bottle on my nightstand so I can drink it right when I wake up.

4. Start With A Task

Starting your day with a small task helps wake up your body and brain. It’s like a little alert to the brain that it’s time to get the day started. I personally love making the bed, opening the blinds, or reading a chapter before I get my day started. You could do a 5-minute stretch, meditate or do a quick workout. As long as you’re moving your body, you’ll start to wake up faster.

5. Eat Breakfast

I know we’re all guilty of skipping breakfast sometimes but try to remind yourself iced coffee is not breakfast lol. Every time you skip breakfast you’re less energized, less focused, and less productive. If you’re like me and don’t wake up hungry, try doing small tasks around the house first. This will wake you up and you’ll start to get a little hungry. My go-to breakfasts are oatmeal, protein waffles, or cereal.

6. Get Ready

Whether you work from home or go to work, getting ready will make you feel more confident and put together. It will definitely make you feel like “that girl”. Getting ready is a form of self-care so if you enjoy wearing a cute outfit and putting on makeup every day then please do it. Feeling good about yourself puts you in a good mood and makes you more productive!

7. Make Morning Beverage

Everyone’s favorite part of the day, making their go-to morning beverage. If your drink of choice is caffeinated make sure to eat something beforehand. Since making my coffee every morning is my favorite, I make sure to take my time with it. I even bought these cute glass cups from Amazon because it’s the little things that make me happy.

8. Set Daily Intention

Every morning set an intention for the day. Think about what you want to do, what needs to get done, or whatโ€™s been on your mind. Itโ€™s all a process, but you can start by brain-dumping your thoughts and prioritizing them. For example, if your priority is to eat healthier, your intention could be โ€œI will nourish my body with food and nutrients that make me feel good.” Intentions should start with “I” because it’s something you want to see get done. These shouldn’t be seen as goals, itโ€™s just something to be mindful of for the day.

9. Plan The Day

Make a list of everything that needs to get done that day, then prioritize them. Make sure to keep the list short and important. Do not add things that you know will not get done. It’s pointless and adds unnecessary stress. Try to keep it at 6 important tasks, because itโ€™s reasonable and accomplishable. I personally use a physical planner and Google calendar. Google Calendar is amazing for time management and a physical planner is great for to-do lists.

10. Empty Inbox

Last but not least, it’s time to worry about other people. Keeping your inbox at zero helps with stress and anxiety before a long day. Having this as the last step of your morning routine allows you to focus on yourself before you need to focus on others.

  1. thank you! as a 12 year old, i’m currently trying my hardest to achieve glass skin, look as pretty as a k pop idol, and have an aesthetic ‘that girl’ routine. I find this information very helpful.

    1. Youโ€™re so welcome! But just a little reminderโ€”at 12, your skin is naturally beautiful and still growing, so try to keep things simple and focus on staying healthy and confident in yourself. Gentle skincare and sunscreen are all you really need right now!
